Today I shaved. I took that rugged mountain man face and sculpted it into sales magic!
Sarah and I and two new BT:China guys (recent college graduates) went out to five department stores here in Yanji to do China market research on the boots. It was great. Basically, Sarah and I would introduce ourselves and then sit down while the guys talked to the sales managers in Chinese or Korean. Being westerners, the sales managers are much more eager to look at our product and talk about possibilities.
We translated our product brochure into Chinese and Korean before going. I’m finally able to distinguish between the two written languages. Chinese characters are much more complex and intricate. Korean characters are much simpler and minimalist. Its actually pretty cool. Happy to share…let me know if you’d like to see the brochures.
Tonight, us guys made spaghetti and garlic bread for the youth group here. Made up of m worker’s and university staff’s children, there were about 20 of us to cook for. It was a success! The spaghetti sauce was made entirely from scratch: tomatoes, onions, and spices.
After dinner we played a couple traditional Korean rhythm/mind games where you have to think very quickly and be able to organize your thoughts while everyone is making noises in rhythm around you. I will share these games when I return!
